Agree on both counts, especially on the reduction in film/creative costs. And looking forward to a 20-year long discussion. Lots to engage our brains on!

What a rollercoaster of emotions this was lol. I really enjoyed this read - and your insight is extremely appreciated. It's taking a very depressing (albeit realistic) angle, but I'm sure we'll realize sooner or later that laziness isn't the way forward...

It’s a bit dark, I agree. But it’s not a done-deal.

Insightful blog. A few points:

1. The Sora video is only interesting from a production standpoint. You would never watch it unless you were intrigued by what AI can achieve. It lacks storytelling. YouTube viral hits go beyond just production. We will face a curation problem with AI akin to YouTube curation on steroids and premium branded content whether AI or human will make a come back. My bet is that hybrid content will win but again for every 1 million videos that get produced, 10,000 will get watched. Nothing new here. Creating content is not equivalent to watching or earning.

2. The rest is too hard to forecast. From a brain perspective, if you are consuming information and activating the brain to solve problems, your brain can continue to develop. If you articulate what you read, see and hear, your brain can continue to develop. I am optimistic that the content burden of AI will in the near/medium term require more human information processing not less. Humans have to curate huge amounts of new information. Kids will be inspired to expand their knowledge base to absorb a rapidly evolving world. Never will reading and information processing and decoding be more important than in the next 5-10 years. Finally my grandkids will get to read and share their views on robo-chefs, autonomous vehicles, fake news scandals, AI impacts on climate change, new art forms…

The dreary textbook on photosynthesis will be replaced with a 10 page stunning layout on calculating the impact of vertical gardening on photosynthesis

The opportunity for societal dialogue, passion and purpose will be re-ignited.

We need AI to make humanity re-engage with possibility. This is what fires up our kids’ neural networks. Not counting the number of miles truck driver Dan can get on 10 gallons of gas. In actuality the status quo is stifling their neural networks.

I love this!

1. I agree; but production is still a huge cost when it comes to movie-making. I always perceived that creativity is not achievable that much with AI; but Midjourney and its use of other artists work changed my pov. I’m also betting and hoping that Hybrid would kick it off. But I can’t say that with absolute confidence.

2. I like the optimism; and I hope so. But at this stage it could go east or west. This is one of those things that could only be tested practically. Let’s see in 20 years or so.

Thanks for the brain tease, Sofia!
