Writing with AI

I look at a client’s document, and it strikes me, “This was written by AI.”

The secret to noticing it is the vocab. It’s as if ChatGPT was tutored by only one English professor.

The world of AI-written content has been growing a lot, but not always in a good way. There are a lot of boring, same-sounding articles and blogs that don't have a human touch. It's become really common for businesses to just throw any random topic at an AI and call it a day.

However, if you use AI the right way, it can be a powerful tool for effective business writing. I recently tried posting three AI-written blog posts on my test website, Fredworth.com. Surprisingly, these posts got around 90 clicks from Google searches - without me doing any extra work.

Heck, the articles even ranked on Google’s first page.

But these articles are guided by me and executed by AI. I believe that’s the perfect recipe.

The key is finding the right AI assistant for the job. After a lot of testing, I've decided that Anthropic's Claude is better than OpenAI's GPT for business writing.

Why Claude and not GPT?

There’s a reason why Google and Amazon invested in Claude over $6 billion.

The Speed

One noticeable difference is how fast they respond.

  • GPT can sometimes be slow, even if you pay for it.

  • Claude, on the other hand, gives fast, eye-bothering, almost instant responses, which is crucial for business writing.

The Tone

Both Claude and GPT can write coherent, grammatically correct text. But there's a small yet important difference in how they sound. GPT tends to use the same boring words over and over, like "seamless." (enough with that already.)

Claude has more varied, natural-sounding language that makes the writing feel more engaging and human-like. Claude's responses also have a certain calmness and confidence to them that I find better for business communication.

The Calming Feeling

Beyond the technical differences, there's also a feel-good factor to using Claude. Interacting with Claude just gives me a more relaxed, assured feeling compared to GPT.

Maybe it’s the UX, but it's like the difference between using Google Search and Bing - Claude just feels more polished.
