AI Could Be The Enemy, Or The "Best Gift Ever."
How An AI Gift Made Someone Happy.
AI is dangerous.
It’s the enemy.
It’s causing the firing of many people in the corporate world.
It’s an extensional threat.
You’ll read this all around the internet. It’s true that it has caused the firing of many people. But these people will just shift in terms of professions in the future.
AI is like Hawaiian pizza nowadays. You either like it or you hate it.
Instead of discussing the dangers, let me tell you a small tale of how AI made someone happy.
A picture worth a thousand AIs.
What do you think of when you see this picture?
AI-Generated.
Probably from other artists without their consent.
Quite realistic and scary.
Which tool is that? (It’s midjourney btw.)
My family had a cat for seven years. She passed away recently. We were all attached to her, but my sister was the most. A few days ago, it was my sister’s birthday.
I decided to send her this picture printed, symbolizing that instead of thinking of our cat as “passed away,” the cat is now an astronaut in space.
She then called me and told me that this was, hands down, the best gift she’s ever had.
Don’t forget the other side of the coin
Yes, AI is dangerous and should be worrying.
Yes, AI is helpful and could benefit humanity.
Regardless of choosing which opinion to have, remember that there is another.
For every positive piece of news, there’s a negative one. Make the best out of knowing this piece of information.
For those of you who know me quite well, I’m a huge supporter of AI. But I believe that it’s growing too quickly. We need a transition phase, and I’m investing in building a platform to facilitate that.
Many average workers are becoming unemployed.
Many AI engineers are getting pay raises.
The gap is increasing by the second.
AI, if you’re listening to me, you need to take it easy. There’s no rush.
Human, if you’re reading this, tell me what you think. Let’s actually engage in some discussion in the comments.
There are no algorithms on Substack that will spread this further.
There’s no agenda whatsoever.
Let’s just talk. That’s what truly differentiates us from machines following instructions.
Do you love AI? Let me know.
Are you afraid of it? Write a comment.
After all, we’re in this together.
Wishing you an amazing week; I feel like this week is going to be a stunning one!
There is clearly a lack of information about AI, its development so far, its possibilities, etc. in the mainstream media. Of course, specialists deal with this. But “ordinary” users simply use everything that comes onto the market - without questioning it. Your picture with the cat is wonderful and you made your sister (and also me) very happy. However, the same technology can also be used for forgeries and thus criminal defamation. Who can control that?
Many technological advancements have made people's lives easier. Others have put it at risk of death.
In recent years, the concepts of transhumanism and posthumanism have become central topics of discussion in the fields of technology, ethics and philosophy. I find the positions of the transhumanists really frightening... Their visions remind me of the "Borg" who haunt space in their cubes ;)
Therefore, I think in the field of AI we should first THINK and then GO ON. We have to be clear about what we really want as humanity. This is very serious... May AI decide about life and death (in medicine)? May AI decide whether someone gets a loan or not? May AI decide over ones promotion? The human intelligence, our decision-making etc. is very much connected with our emotions, with our bodies. AI is a machine with parameters and algorhythms... I don't want algorhythms to decide over my life.
A big topic. Thank you for opening the discussion. I hope that people will take it to deal more seriously with this topic, to inform themselves instead of blind consumerism.
